In 1937 Janet Gaynor comes to Hollywood and her first stop, of course, is the forecourt at Grauman's Chinese in William Wellman's "A Star is Born" (Selznick International).

They say they're going to the Shrine Auditorium for the Academy Awards but the location turns out to be a hotel ballroom.
A premiere view from the end of the film. We get another closer shot looking toward the theatre's entrance and some nice views of people getting out of their limos. Gaynor is in the forecourt when she goes to the radio mic and does the last line of the film: "Hello, everybody. This is Mrs. Norman Maine."
The footage used for this shot was from the premiere of Selznick's "Garden of Allah" on January 13, 1937. The "Vicki Lester" wording across the entrance was added by Selznick's special effects wizard Jack Cosgrove. "A Star Is Born" also played the Chinese: a one week engagement beginning April 20.
