A peaceful evening at Grauman's Chinese in "Iron Man 3" (Marvel/Disney, 2013). The theatre was running a Holiday Family Film Festival. The film stars Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Rebecca Hall and Ben Kingsley. Shane Black directed. The cinematography was by John Toll.
A happy peek into the forecourt. But trouble is afoot.
Research gone wrong has produced a product that allows a human to be weaponized.
The explosion after the spontaneous combustion of the guy whose DNA has been messed with.
The chaos as viewed from above. Jon Favreau was there and ends up in a coma.
A street level view after the blast.
As one of the perps leaves the scene we get a view of the El Capitan across the street.
Curiously, when the villain announces his triumph on TV he uses a 50s image.
Robert Downey, Jr. builds himself a virtual model of the site to analyze the blast.
See the pages about Grauman's Chinese and the El Capitan Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for more information about these two Hollywood showplaces.
