We get some doctored Grauman's Chinese premiere footage in George Cukor's "What Price Hollywood?" (RKO Pathe, 1932) starring Constance Bennett and Neil Hamilton. Mary Evans, the character played by Constance, gets turned into a star they brand as "America's Pal." Sweetheart was already taken.
Another image from the Chinese footage used for the film. Kurt Wahlner notes that the footage of the Chinese they used was taken at the April 29, 1932 premiere of "Grand Hotel."
A shot from newsreel coverage of the "Grand Hotel" premiere that's included with the film's DVD.
A shot used at the beginning of a montage of houses playing various Mary Evans pictures as her stardom rises. Thanks to Kurt Wahlner for figuring out that it's the Fox Wilshire.
A doctored shot of the marquee at the Warner Beverly Hills as the Palace. That "P" on the corner was actually a "WB."
A look at the marquee of the Wiltern Theatre redone as the house for the premiere of "Playing Around." The theatre was still called the Warner Bros. Western Theatre at this time.
