"Zoot Suit"

A vintage exterior photo of the Earl Carroll Theatre, 6230 W. Sunset Blvd., that's used at the beginning of "Zoot Suit" (Universal, 1981). The film, directed by Luis Valdez, stars Daniel Valdez, Edward James Olmos, Tyne Daly and Charles Aidman.

Another exterior image from the opening of the film. Lanna Pian spotted the credit at the end of "Zoot Suit" noting that it was filmed at the Aquarius Theatre -- one of the many names the Earl Carroll has gone under.  There are some shots in the auditorium -- mostly of the audience. We don't really don't see anything of it except seats.

We do however get some nice views of the lobby such as this one on the stairs.

This one gives us a view of several of the lobby sculptures.

And a nice shot looking up the stairs. See the pages about the Earl Carroll on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a rundown on the history of the building along with many photos. The theatre is currently vacant.
