"Show Girl in Hollywood"

We get some nice exterior views of the Warner Hollywood, 6433 Hollywood Blvd., near the end of Mervyn LeRoy's "Show Girl in Hollywood" (Warner Bros., 1930). Thanks to Jack Tillmany for sending along the tip. He notes: "Alice White's film-in-the-film, 'The Rainbow Girl,' recorded on Vitaphone, is supposedly having its premiere. Only downer is that this entire sequence was originally filmed in 2-color Technicolor, but only survives in black and white."

The film also stars Jack Mulhall, Blanche Sweet and Ford Sterling. Before we get to the premiere, there are many great scenes of the "Vitaphoning" of "Rainbow Girl" at the First National studio.

Looking along the sidewalk toward the Warner's entrance before the premiere.

The marquee with "Rainbow Girl" on it, the film-in-the-film.

A murky view from across the street.

Al Jolson arriving for the premiere. He wishes Dixie Dugan well.

Loretta Young approaching the microphone at the Warner. For more about the theatre see the Warner Hollywood pages on the Los Angeles Theatres site. Nope, we don't get any views inside the lobby.

We get some nice views in the booth only they weren't done at the Warner. Different lamps and not a steep enough projection angle. For several vintage views of the actual installation at the Warner Hollywood see the Los Angeles Theatres page about the projection booth.

A shot in the house of the action on the screen near the end of the film. We don't see anything that looks like the Warner.

A clip from the film of Alice singing "I Got My Eye On You" in the Warner studio is on YouTube.

On IMDb:"Show Girl in Hollywood"
