"Friends With Benefits"

Emma Stone, a devout John Mayer fan, is at the Pantages in Hollywood at the beginning of "Friends With Benefits" (Sony/Screen Gems, 2011).  Her boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, is late so she missed the first number.

A scene in the ticket lobby as she expresses her displeasure -- and breaks up with him. She tells him
that for her to miss that particular song is just as unpleasant as if he "had just taken a _____ on my face."

We've wandered out here during the scene. Emma now runs back to the theatre so she won't miss any more of the concert. Thanks to Lindsay Blake for noting the appearance of the Pantages in the film in her Discover L.A. article "Go On Location: Historic Los Angeles Theatres Featured in Film."

At the same time, Mila Kunis is in New York breaking up with her boyfriend, also in front of a theatre. Will Gluck directed. The film also features Patricia Clarkson, Woody Harrellson, Jenna Elfman, Andy Samberg and Richard Jenkins.

See the pages about the Pantages Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a history of the theatre and many photos.

Justin gets recruited for a New York job by a headhunter played by, yes, Mila Kunis. He later hooks up with her and brings her on a trip out west to see his family. Somehow we fly over Hollywood on the way in and we get this fine shot. The El Capitan is in the lower left. Above it is the Chinese and near the top of the image to the left of the Loew's hotel (here still called the Renaissance) we have the Kodak Theatre, now rebranded as the Dolby.

A moment later we get this terrific shot of the forecourt of the Chinese. See the pages on Grauman's Chinese, the El Capitan, and the Dolby Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for histories of the buildings and many photos.
