"Walking the Edge"

This nice view of the Gordon Theatre, 614 N. La Brea Ave., in "Walking the Edge" (Empire Pictures, 1985). The film was shot in 1982 with the theatre running "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "Young Doctors In Love."

The film, directed by Norbert Meisel, stars Nancy Kwan and Robert Forster.  They're fun to watch but the rest of the adventure is rather dismal. It's a tale of an L.A. taxi driver who picks up a fare who is intent on executing a revenge mission.

As befits a film about an L.A. cab driver, we do get lots of fine drives around town. One shot on Western Ave. gives us this look at the Clinton Theatre. They were looking for a garage where Ms. Kwan was planning on killing some people.

Thanks to Eric Schaefer for spotting the theatres in the film. The Gordon was later known as the Showcase after a Cineplex Odeon remodel and is now used as a church. The Clinton was a 1938 design that later got repurposed as retail space. See the Los Angeles Theatres pages on the Showcase Theatre and the Clinton Theatre for photos and history.
