"Jackpot!"

We get a brief glimpse of Grauman's Chinese in "Jackpot!" (MGM/Amazon, 2024). Thanks to former Chinese Theatre manager Levi Tinker for spotting this in the film and sharing the screenshot in a Facebook post. The theatre's LED display is advertising "Robo President III: Impeach This!"

See the Grauman's Chinese pages on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a history of this 1927 vintage movie palace and hundreds of photos. The billboard behind the bus is advertising "The Grand Lottery." The film, directed by Paul Feig, was originally going to be titled "Grand Death Lotto."

Aspiring actress Awkwafina wins the lottery but this is Los Angeles in 2030. You have to live until sundown to collect the prize. Some guys want to help her improve the odds who say they're from the "biggest lottery protection agency in the city." John Cena surfaces and also offers to help. If she doesn't survive, the prize goes to the killer. "But that's murder," she says. John replies: "No, not in California. That's just a chance at the big time." They fight off many challengers.

Also featured are Simu Liu, Marian Green, Rosanna Scotto, Dolly De Leon and Murray Hill. The cinematography was by John Schwartzman. Almost all of the film was shot in Atlanta.

A view that begins the scenes for the film's finale shot in what the characters refer to as "the Hollywood Theatre." They used the 4,600 seat theatre at the Atlanta Civic Center.
