"The Burning Cross"

Henry Daniels plays a veteran who decides to move back to his hometown, called Bridgeton, in "The Burning Cross" (Somerset Pictures, 1947). We get lots of backlot scenes until sixteen minutes into it when there's a bit of footage looking west on 6th St. in San Pedro. On the right it's the Globe Theatre, 204 W. 6th. More of the footage is used briefly just before the end credits.

See the page about the Globe Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site.

About five minutes before the end we get a quick urban montage using several shots from some unidentified street.

It's a story about our gullible veteran getting hooked up with schemers running the local branch of the KKK. The film also features Virginal Patton, Dick Rich, Betty Roadman and Walden Boyle. Walter Colmes directed. The cinematography was by Walter Strenge.

On IMDb: "The Burning Cross"  The full film can be seen in a murky version on YouTube

The film DID play in San Pedro, but only on the bottom of a bill at the Warner:

Thanks to Ken McIntyre for locating this December 12, 1947 ad.
