"Old Boyfriends"

Private investigator Buck Henry has an office across the street from Grauman's Chinese in "Old Boyfriends" (Avco Embassy, 1979). Talia Shire has been trying to make sense of her life by revisiting earlier relationships. She drops in on Richard Jordan in Colorado and disappears after a brief fling. So he's come to L.A. and talks to Buck about finding her.

The film also features John Belushi, Keith Carradine, John Houseman, Bethel Leslie, Gerrit Graham, Joan Hotchkis and William Bassett. Joan Tewkesbury directed. The cinematography was by William A. Fraker. When Talia goes to Minneapolis one of the downtown establishing shots features the Garden Theatre on 3rd St. in Seattle.

We see "Star Wars" playing at the Chinese when Richard takes a look out the window.

Thanks to Eric Schaefer for spotting the Chinese in the film and getting the screenshots. He comments:

"On a deep trivia dive, Paul Schrader co-wrote and executive produced this film. Coincidentally, he shot his film "Hardcore" around the same time where there is a shot of the Chinese showing 'Star Wars' from the Holiday Inn vantage point."

See the pages about Grauman's Chinese on the Los Angeles Theatres website for more information about this 1927 vintage theatre.
