When George Segal exits a massage parlor in Robert Altman's "California Split" (Columbia Pictures, 1974) we get a look west toward the Star Theatre, 5546 Hollywood Blvd. Thanks to screenwriter Larry Karaszewski for spotting the theatre in the film.
It's about a casual gambler sinking deeper into the gaming world after he meets a pro. The film also features Elliott Gould, Ann Prentiss, Gwen Welles, Barbara London and Jeff Goldblum. Paul Lohmann was the cinematographer.
A detail from the shot that Larry Karaszewski shared in a Facebook post. The top line on the marquee: "99¢ Always." Larry notes that the triple feature was "Enter the Dragon," "Come Back, Charleston Blue" and "Gimme Shelter."
