"Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman"

The El Monte Drive-in gets several scenes in Christopher Guest's TV movie "Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman" (HBO, 1993). It got a theatrical release in some countries, including Spain and France.

Thanks to Stephen Eric Schaefer for spotting the theatre in the film and getting four of the screenshots seen here. He notes that there's a nice upload of the full film on YouTube.

The cast is headed by Daryl Hannah as the woman who gets the alien experience, Daniel Baldwin as the cheating husband, Christi Conaway is the girlfriend and William Windom plays Daryl's father. O'Neal Compton is seen as the sheriff with Victoria Haas as his deputy. Frances Fisher is Daryl's therapist and Paul Benedict is a bewildered doctor brought in to deal with the 50' tall Daryl. The cinematography was by Russell Carpenter.

A closer look at the squad car. The sheriff had his deputy bring him a hot dog from the snackbar.

"Dead Tired" was added to the program the day after Daryl has her first alien encounter. She is still normal sized and no one believes her story. We go by the Drive-In as she takes her husband to the site to look for evidence.

Another change of program on the marquee for a later scene.

Daryl has grown and she's out looking for her husband. He might be at the Drive-In.

The Fox Theatre in Taft is on the left as Daryl takes a walk up Center St. on the search for the wayward husband. She'll find him at the beauty salon where his girlfriend works. They're doing it on the floor.
