"Twins"

In "Twins" (Universal, 1988) Arnold Schwarzenegger is new in Los Angeles and is looking for his long-lost brother, played by Danny DeVito. Although they haven't yet met, they've both found themselves in front of the Chinese Theatre. See the pages about Grauman's Chinese on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a history of this 1927 vintage theatre, still in the movie business.

The film, directed by Ivan Reitman, also features Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb, David Caruso, Nehemiah Persoff and Hugh O'Brien. The cinematography was by Andrzej Bartkowiak.

A view west toward the red vertical of the Paramount Theatre, 6838 Hollywood Blvd., just west of Highland. It's now returned to its original name. See the pages about the El Capitan on the Los Angeles Theatres site. Ignore that turquoise vertical a bit closer -- it's for Scientology. On the far left note the signage of the Fox Theatre, 6508 Hollywood Blvd. Arnold was out for a nighttime stroll on the Boulevard.

Another look at the Fox marquee. They were running "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood." Arnold is spotted as a rube and is being set up. The guy on the motorcycle is in for a surprise when he tries to grab Arnold's suitcase. See the page about the Fox Theatre for more data in this one. It opened in 1918 as the Iris.

Much later in the film Arnold is walking down the street in a small Texas town when he sees a car that he likes. He needs transportation to find his brother, who is in more trouble than he knows. Note the wall of the suspicious looking building in the upper center. It could be a theatre.

A moment later it's revealed that we're not in Texas after all, despite the longhorn steer horns and Texas plates on the car. We're on Avalon Blvd. in Wilmington and that's the Granada Theatre, running Spanish language films. See the page about the Granada on the Los Angeles Theatres site for more about this 1926 vintage film and vaudeville house.
