"1941"

Robert Stack goes to see "Dumbo" at a theatre called the Hollywood State in Steven Spielberg's "1941" (Universal, 1979). Thanks to Tommy Bernard for the screenshot and identifying the location. He notes that we are on the backlot at Warner Brothers. The film also stars James Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Nancy Allen and Lorraine Gary.

A day view of the street set -- with a more Skouras treatment on the boxoffice. Thanks to Tommy Bernard for the photo.

When we go inside we're at the the Los Angeles Theatre, 615 S. Broadway. Stack knows all the lines for the cartoon he's watching.

Stack gets a phone call and we see him with his men answering the call in the booth at the Los Angeles. At right are the projectors. On the left we get a view of the board that once electronically controlled the saturable reactor dimmers for the house lights.

On the phone with a view out a port.

See the pages about the Los Angeles Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for more about this terrific 1931 vintage movie palace.

On IMDb: "1941"
