"Batman Forever"

The main lobby of the Pantages Theatre, 6233 Hollywood Blvd., shows up for a big party scene as the lobby of the Ritz Gotham Hotel in "Batman Forever" (Warner Bros., 1995). The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, stars Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman.

The fountain in the center of the lobby. Thanks to Mike Hume for the screenshots. Make sure you check out the fine page about the Pantages on his Historic Theatre Photography site.

Looking up one of the sets of stairs to the balcony. There's a rather squeezed clip of the scene on YouTube.

A shot on one of the stair landings.

See the pages about the Pantages Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a history of the building and many photos.

A robbery at the Jewelry Exchange uses the basement ladies cosmetics room at the Los Angeles Theatre, 615 S. Broadway. The covered doorway straight ahead leads into the toilet area. The mirrors in the arched openings have also been covered.

Four additional shots from the scene:

Again thanks to Mike Hume for the screenshots. Check out the terrific page about the Los Angeles Theatre on his Historic Theatre Photography site.

We're in the basement of the Los Angeles again a few minutes later. This time it's the main basement lounge being used for a quick scene as the Excelsior Grand Casino. Mike Hume notes that the cashier's cage is on the north wall of the lounge in front of the theatre's former periscope viewing screen.

Another shot in the lounge in the Excelsior Grand Casino scene. Here we're looking north with the cashier's cage across the room. Mike notes that both scenes at the Los Angeles are very short with lots of snappy cuts and thus not easy to spot the locations used.

In addition to the page on Mike's site, check out the many pages about the Los Angeles Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a history of the building and hundreds of photos.
