The lobby areas of the Los Angeles are something called "The Playroom" in Stewart Raffill's "The Ice Pirates" (MGM, 1984), a "comic science fiction film," starring Robert Urich, Anjelica Huston, Ron Perlman and John Carradine. Thanks to Eitan Alexander for the spotting the theatre in this overlooked masterpiece. And for the screenshots. No attempt has been made to figure out the plot. Bruce Vilanch is up there on the throne as the evil emperor.
A look down the grand lobby stairs.
Another chance to check out the lobby carpet. And say hi! to Bruce.
The beauties arrayed on the stairs.
Heading to the basement.
The pirates are up to some murky adventure in the basement lounge.
See the pages about the Los Angeles Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a history of the building and many photos.
