The opening of the film is set in New York but about 10 minutes in we're taking a cab ride home and seeing L.A.'s Broadway through the rear window in "Three Daring Daughters" (MGM, 1948). Thanks to Jack Tillmany for spotting the footage. We're looking at the Orpheum Theatre, 842 S. Broadway and, down in the next block, the vertical of the United Artists, 933 S. Broadway.
The daughters are played by Jane Powell, Ann E. Todd and Elinor Donahue. They're going home after seeing their sad mother, Jeanette MacDonald, off on a vacation. They've been hoping their father will come back and the parents will re-marry. Instead she meets Jose Iturbi and gets married without telling the girls. Fred M. Wilcox directed.
A moment later we get a bit of the Rialto Theatre on the left.
See the pages on the Los Angeles Theatres site for more information about the Rialto Theatre, the Orpheum Theatre, and the United Artists for a history of each building and many, many photos.
