The lobby of the Los Angeles Theatre, 615 S. Broadway, appears in "The Last Tycoon" (Paramount, 1976). Here the crowd is leaving after a preview screening of a film produced by the studio run by Monroe Stahr, played by Robert DeNiro. Left of center on the stairs are Tony Curtis and Leslie Curtis, his real wife and also playing that part in the film.
Robert Mitchum and Jeanne Moreau on the stairs. Below are Robert DeNiro and Theresa Russell. Thanks to Jonathan Raines for spotting the theatre in the film. Elia Kazan directed this version of the unfinished F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. The film also stars Ray Milland, Ingrid Boulting, Jack Nicholson, Donald Pleasence, Dana Andrews and many others.
For a history of the 1931 vintage movie palace and many photos see the pages about the Los Angeles Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site.
