"First Daughter"

Katie Holmes is the off-the-charts-cute daughter of President Michael Keaton and First Lady Margaret Colin in Forest Whitaker's film "First Daughter" (20th Century Fox, 2004). When we go into some monumental building in Washington for a diplomatic function we find ourselves in the lobby of the Los Angeles Theatre, 615 S. Broadway. That guy on the right? Just part of her Secret Service detail.

Another lobby shot at the Los Angeles.

Marc Blucas plays the love interest. Oh, he's also a Secret Service agent only Katie's character doesn't know that. Amerie plays the best friend when Katie goes off to college in the town of "Redmond." UCLA is nicely used for the campus scenes. Here Katie and Marc are trying to escape the paparazzi and they run by the "Redmond Theatre." She's incognito in the maroon hoodie on the far left.

Another look at the marquee. The theatre is the Orange Theatre, now a church, at 172 N. Glassell St. in Orange, CA.

When they go around to the back and go up the outside stairs to the balcony they find themselves coming in the exit near the proscenium at the Los Angeles Theatre. As we saw on the marquee, they're running "The Girl Can't Help It" with Jayne Mansfield.

A shot at the Los Angeles of the couple watching the film. A candy butcher is wandering the aisles selling popcorn and candy. For a history of the 1931 vintage movie palace and many photos see the pages about the Los Angeles Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site.
