Near the beginning of "Crime 101" (Amazon MGM, 2026) we're downtown on Broadway with a view of the signage for the Palace Theatre. A couple of couriers are going into a store at 6th and Broadway to pick up some diamonds.
It's light when the couriers come out. Our holdup guy, played by Chris Hemsworth, will be following them to another store up the 101 for a delivery. He's not arousing suspicion because he's in the right car but he had ambushed the driver at a 101 offramp and has him in the trunk.
As Chris pulls out to follow the car with the two couriers we get a view north of the Arcade, Cameo and Roxie theatres in the 500 block.
The couriers get robbed behind a more upscale jewelry store. Later when the police arrive it's revealed that we're at the Calabasas Commons. In this shot of Mark Ruffalo and his partner Corey Hawkins we're looking west with the Regency Calabasas Commons in the distance. That theatre closed in December 2025 and has been demolished.
The film also features Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Nick Nolte. Bart Layton directed. The cinematography was by Erik Wilson. We get a lot of terrific photography of L.A. area locations including visits to the Grand Central Market.
