We get a drive-by of the Hollywood Theatre in episode 1 of the documentary "The One About Matthew Perry" (Netflix, 2026). Thanks to Donavan S. Moye for spotting the footage and getting the screenshots.
"Top Gun" had opened May 16, 1986 at the Chinese but only played a week in the big house. Note the construction fence and scaffolding -- the Hollywood was closed at this time. Just to the west they were demolishing a building. The new structure on that site was to house a McDonald's.
See the page about the Hollywood Theatre on the Los Angeles Theatres site for a history of this 1913 vintage showplace. It's at 6764 Hollywood Blvd., just east of Highland Ave.
